The role played by sculptural models in drawing instruction is explicitly conveyed on the title page of Abraham Bloemaert’s ‘konstryk tekenboek’ (artful drawing book), a manual for aspiring artists. Surrounded by casts of sculptures, a young artist is busy copying a sculpture of an old man reclining. Hanging on the wall are plaster models of larger than life-size body parts. Frederik Bloemaert made this title page for his father’s book.
