RMTAACF8–'Arrival of Cardinal Wolsey at Leicester Abbey, 1530'. By Sir John Gilbert (1817-1897). On 4th November 1530 Cardinal Wolsey (c1473-1530) was arrested for treason. Whilst travelling from Yorkshire to London, where Wolsey would be held prisoner. The journey took Wolsey through Leicester, and he arrived at the abbey on 26th November where he was met by the Father Abbott. Falling ill Wolsey died there four day later on 30th November 1530.

When King Henry V of England led his troops into battle and participated in hand-to-hand fighting, the unexpected English victory against the numerically superior French army boosted English morale and prestige and crippled France. It started a new period of English dominance in the war that would last for 14 years until France defeated England in the Siege of Orléans in 1429.
