Hoax alert: Carlos Santana is not dead

Fear not, Carlos Santana fans, the beloved musician is alive and well.

Rumors started flying on Tuesday that the Smooth singer had passed away at the age of 68. But the Twitter and Facebook postings are "completely false," his rep, Michael Jensen, tells USA TODAY. He adds: "He is alive and well and enjoying his morning!"

In June, Santana performed the national anthem during the NBA Finals, and earlier this month the musician joined a group of Latino stars, including Emilio Estefan, Gloria Estefan, Shakira, Thalia, Pepe Aguilar and Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean, to record a song aimed at combating a wave of anti-Mexican rhetoric sparked earlier this summer by Donald Trump.

Santana, a 10-time Grammy winner, is from San Francisco, but currently resides in Las Vegas, where he is in the middle of a residency at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. His next show is scheduled for Nov. 4.

The Mexican and American musician has sold more than 100 million records with hits from Oye Como Va to Maria Maria.
