Henrik Aspen recently joined Private Equity Insights in Zurich together with Patrick Weber (EQT Group) and Ertan Can (Multiple Capital) to discuss the latest developments in European PE seen through the lens of what Swiss PE can learn from other markets. Two key takeaways: - The impact space, and in particular decarbonisation, is seeing a lot of interesting developments. Switzerland's strengths within climate and carbon technology means it's in pole position to harness the trend. Verdane is a proud partner of Swiss-founded Climeworks, which closed the largest funding round ever for a carbon tech company last year. - With regards to the energy transition opportunity, the funds finding their way to the most attractive deals aren’t simply trying to increase broad exposure to the energy transition. They are investing with a clear strategy carefully calibrated to take advantage of their unique approach to creating value. Investment approaches can vary considerably based on both tactics and risk. But that means investors can dial in where they want to play based on a firm’s mandate, expertise, and capabilities. Great keynote speech by European Investment Fund (EIF) Chief Executive Marjut Falkstedt at FVCA - Pääomasijoittajat fall seminar in Helsinki. Marjut highlighted the role of public investors like EIF and Tesi in crowding in private funds to the VC/PE ecosystem in Finland. EIF’s EUR 3.75 billion European Tech Champions Initiative (ETCI) will contribute to the provision of scale up financing through investments to one billion euro plus funds. Last but not least, improving diversity in the sector will be a key theme for EIF.
