1982 Mercedes-Benz 380 SL Convertible

Vintage Mercedes are the perfect combination of old world luxury and universal appeal.  Fast, luxurious, stylish and built like a Panzer tank, they're first the choice of many classic car collectors who like to both show and drive their metal.  With no collision or major body damage this rock-solid Benz is a keeper.  

A title verified 102,738 actual miles are showing on this used SL.  A consignor stated all original car that shows the passage of time, and use with patina, blemishes, and a few dents and dings.  Mechanically sound, a beautiful interior which is fairly clean and coming with its Mercedes Benz tool kit and first aid kit.  An undercarriage that is rust free, this is the perfect car if you're one of those Daimler diehards who's looking for the ultimate in 'old school', it's a nice find with both the soft and hardtops!

Exterior
Bathed in Sun Yellow, straight heavy steel is used to fabricate this “Sport Light” convertible.  A few dings, scuffs and overall staining is seen in the paint, along with some mis-match of color on the tops of the fenders.  However, this could be due to the staining.  Black tear free canvas provides the topper, and a clear rear plastic window is within the top.  Also, an optional body matching fiberglass hardtop is along with this consignment.  A “Pagoda Style” car due to its roofline, all chrome and trimming exterior wise are looking great!  Rear taillights are ribbed for self cleaning, did you know?  Standard MB wheels are on all 4 corners wrapped in 205/70R14 blackwall radials from the 39th week of 2021.

Interior
Black leather makes up the front bucket “chairs” and these are looking slightly used with all good surfaces but not without notable age wear on the driver's outer bolster and lower cushion.  In the center is a burl covered console which has the shift lever, emergency flasher, and power window switches.  Moving upward in the center we note climate control buttons and a slightly worn AM/FM/Cassette player within more wood burl.  Just above this are a few rocker switches and 3 round air pods for the heat/AC.  The dash is black molded vinyl and all original configuration.  Throughout the cabin, black accenting carpet works the black vinyl making up the door panels.  Behind the seats is a carpeted storage area with some light fade and behind under the flip up tonneau is storage for the top.

Drivetrain
Under the hood plenty of patina is showing on the original 3.8 Liter V8 complete with Bosch Jetronic EFI.  A 3-speed automatic transmission is on back as well as a 2.47 rear axle.

Undercarriage
No rust, nice aging, and little road dirt show underneath.  Independent coil spring suspension is seen on both the front and back, as are power disc brakes on all 4 corners.  A stock style dual exhaust system is on for the exhale and is looking nearly new. 

Drive-Ability
Top down, and a luxury German Sports car and what else do you need?  It went fast, handled like it was on rails and all functions were working Ausgezeichnet save for the AC needing repair…god bless you!

German engineering, German build, German 3.8 Liter V8 and the quality goes on and on for these practically indestructible cars.  Mercedes-Benz quality and innovation is second to none, and this early SL shows the way for things to come, but retains its classic looks.  Schnell!
