Rebuilt in the last years of the XVIII century, the Church now shows an elegant front on three orders. On its sides there are two bell-towers which end with a small quadrangular dome. The inside has an elliptic structure and contains numerous works of art of valuable workmanship. At the entry it is possible to admire a beautiful choir in rococo style. Photo © Affinità Elettive
Going on to the first altar on the right there is a painting which represents Santa Lucia condotta al supplizio (St. Lucy led to torture) and it can be attributed to Giuseppe Rapisardi (1799-1853). Interesting from artistic point of view are wall decorations which cover the vault and represent the Assunzione (Assumption Day) and the Doctors of the Church. The same is said for the paintings in the apse which represent the Ascensione (Ascension-day) and the Evangelists. Worthy of mentioning are the elegant canvases present on the second altar on the right and the first altar on the left. They represent the "Immacolata and San Carlo" and the "Morte of San Benedetto" (Death of St. Benedect). They are ascribed to the school of Olivio Sozzi (1690-1765). |
