Firstly, let’s talk about how to get to Zaros. You can take a bus from Heraklion, the main city in Crete, to Zaros. The bus ride takes about an hour and a half, and it’s a scenic route that takes you through the mountains and forests of the island. Alternatively, you can rent a car and drive to Zaros, which will give you more flexibility and allow you to explore the surrounding areas at your own pace. Once you arrive in Zaros, there are plenty of things to do and see. For nature lovers, Votomos Lake is the crown jewel of Zaros. The lake is surrounded by lush greenery creating a magical scenery. You can take a relaxing walk around the lake, have a picnic with your family or sip your favorite coffee at one of the cafes located by the lake.
