This is a nice downtown area in San Mateo!!
Everything is relatively close, you have a wide variety of restaurants, Central Park, a movie theater, shopping, just plenty to do here.
Parking isn't too bad here either, there is a nice sized garage centrally located.
A good place to come and hang out for a while on the weekends!!Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Nov 6, 2022
My bf and I came from SF and had a little bit of time before our flight, so we decided to check out downtown San Mateo. It's a cool little city and it has a lot of Asian restaurants in such a compact location. We went to Gao Viet and would love to try the other restaurants closeby next time!

If there's one thing I love to do is walking! It's great for the soul, clears the mind, awakens your creativity, and best of all, it's free!! No need to pay a gym membership.
We are so lucky to live in downtown San Mateo, where we can pretty much walk our dogs anywhere downtown, go shopping, pick-up to go food, or hangout at B Street Coffee and chill with our dogs.
Downtown San Mateo have grown. Everyone all over the Bay Area flocks to taste ramen house, sushi, Taiwanese dim sum, and the ever growing Boba dessert drinks in every block is just mind boggling. Don't forget, we now have Brazilian steak house along with a growing Korean and Hot Pot too!!
If you do come for a visit, especially during the weekend, know ahead that parking is tough. The streets are narrow, but don't be discourage, use the parking garages. They are all over downtown. There's also parking and spaces for EV & PHEV
vehicles.
However, if you are local like me, and only live a few miles away, during the weekend, I recommend taking your dogs for a walk. It will be less stressful, and you don't have to deal with traffic, and you get a good workout too.
Until then, please be kind to one another!
Cheers!Helpful 20Thanks 0Love this 19Oh no 0 - Kris V.Hayward, CA447984Mar 12, 2018
Pros:
My husband and I went here for a long walk for our active rest day and indeed it is meant for long walks! I mean, the area is huge and lots to see esp restaurants. Lots of restaurants to choose from. If one is craving for Asian food, this is a place to go. It is considerably clean and not so much homeless people, if this is one of your concerns. Easy to find parking as well.
Cons:
The vibe of the place is not so lively. we went Sunday though so I am not sure if this is the way it is or it was just bec it was Sunday. We have seen nicer downtown so I am giving this mispoint which is 3.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
