In the 1930's mid-priced sedans were not supposed to be attractive, or fast, or innovative. Mid-priced sedans attracted people from Fords, Plymouths and Chevys with a little better trim and maybe a horsepower or two. E.L. Cord turned that idea on its ear with his 810. Introduced in 1936 to great fanfare its front wheel drive and the low chassis and bodywork that it made possible immediately set it apart technically. More important, as it turned out, was Gordon Buehrig's brilliant 'coffin-nose' bodywork that made every Cord 810 sedan a work of art. This 1936 Cord 810 Westchester Sedan is an example of why even mid-priced sedan Cord 810’s excite onlookers almost 80 years after they were introduced. Finished in deep maroon with an interior of beige cloth piped in brown, it is equipped with fog lights, heater, radio, maroon carpets and radial whitewall tires. The Cord 810/812 body was built in two styles of which this is the much more attractive and popular fastback design. Its Westchester interior features three-across rear seating. An older restoration, it has recently been serviced and detailed, has a great look about it and is ready for tours (it is a CCCA Full Classic(tm)) and local shows that will stop traffic today even better than it did three quarters of a century ago when it was new.
