This is likely the only Maserati A6G/54 with a Double-Bubble Zagato roof

Maserati certainly did not make many A6G/54 Berlinettas–only 20, to be exact. Of those built, it is believed only one came with a Double-Bubble Zagato roof. This is it.

The car was constructed for Luigi Fornasari to compete in the 1956 Mille Miglia. Fornasari and his co-driver Gianfranco Roghi competed with the unpainted car until they suffered an accident on rain-slickened roads. The brand-new car landed on its unique roof and their event ended there.

The good news is that all aboard did not suffer serious injury. Zagato repaired the car, painted it in Silver Metallic, reduced the radiator opening, lowered the headlights and added a strip of alloy trim from the back of the front fenders to the door handle–the only A6G/54 Berlinetta from Zagato to receive this treatment.

Find this 1956 Maserati A6G/54 Zagato Berlinetta up for auction at Broad Arrow Auctions, with an estimated winning bid of $3,250,000-$3,750,000.
