The Hilton Malta is an excellent hotel – even when faced with the Covid crisis.

Prior to arrival in Malta, we were required to take a Covid PCR test and provide a letter from the test centre confirming a negative result.

Face masks are required at all times, except when eating/drinking in a restaurant, or swimming.

A taxi from Malta airport to the hotel took twenty minutes (16 EUR booked via the Malta eCabs app).

Arrival

We were welcomed at the hotel entrance by a member of Hilton staff, who took our temperature and asked that we use the hand santiser station. This happened every time we entered the hotel.

At check in, we were thanked for being Diamond members and upgraded to a Junior Suite.

We were asked if we would like a daily cleaning service and we said yes – mainly for the towel change.

The elevators are card controlled and our card would only take us up to our floor or the 9th (Executive Lounge floor). Any floors below reception (5th) are accessible to all.

You can look down from 5th (lobby) to a few floors below.

Room

Our junior suite was really comfortable.

The suite terraces provided fantastic views.

There were multiple electrical outlets (mostly UK sockets) plus USB outlets on each side of the bed.

Bottles of water and small gifts, such as chocolates or a Panettone cake, were left each day.

The wi-fi was fast and my phone remained connected, without having to re-authenticate, for the duration of our stay.

Our suite had everything you would want; bathrobes, slippers, iron, ironing board, umbrella, shoe horn, safe and plenty of tea and coffee making facilities – both a coffee machine and a kettle.

Pool

The outside pool area is perfectly landscaped. The indoor pool is lovely, although numbers were limited and bookings required. And as it was Christmas there were plenty of kids. Here’s a picture from mid-December last year.

Executive Lounge

The Executive Lounge is on the ninth floor. Additional signage and hand santiser were at the entrance and throughout the lounge. The lounge is large and luxurious. Much better than you would find in most other Hilton Hotels.

All drinks and buffet items were served to you. This was afternoon tea.

The outdoor terrace has spectacular views.

It’s great to see how they’ve maintained the quality of the offering and actually improved upon it during the Covid situation.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the main Oceana Restaurant.

There is a reserved dining area for Hilton Diamond members.

A lovely outdoor terrace – warm enough for shorts and a short-sleeved shirt on Christmas Day.

Barriers protect the buffets and all items are served to you.

Cooked-to-order items, such as omelettes and poached eggs were available.

Christmas Eve Dinner

We returned to the Oceana Restaurant for a special Christmas Eve dinner.

There was huge selection of food, either served at your table or served to you from the various buffets.

Everything was delicious.

Blue Elephant Thai Restaurant

We returned to the Blue Elephant Thai Restaurant (Floor 1) and it was just as good as before. You can read my review here.

Summary

I’m happy to report that the hotel and staff have done an amazing job. Standards have been maintained while doing everything to reduce Covid transmission. The Hilton Malta deserves to retain first place in the BugAdvisor.com list of Hilton Hotels & Resorts worldwide. Well done to all the staff at the hotel. Special thanks to one of the managers, Mahmoud Elkot, with whom I’d been exchanging messages prior to my visit – he was so friendly and helpful.
