This 1936 Cord 810 Westchester was purchased by the seller’s father in 2012 and was inherited by the seller in 2018. The car is finished in tan over matching upholstery, and power comes from a 288ci Lycoming V8 that drives the front wheels through a front-mounted, vacuum-operated four-speed preselector transaxle. Features include four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, Richardson front axle joints, an independent front suspension, pop-up headlights, a flat-back trunk, an AM radio, and a Stewart-Warner South Wind heater. This 810 Westchester is now offered with an owner’s manual, spare parts, literature, and a Washington title that lists the car as a Cord 810 Beverly.

1936 Cord 810 Westchester

The Cord 810/812 was introduced in late 1935 and was produced for two years before the Auburn Automobile Company ceased manufacture of the Cord marque. Gordon Buehrig-penned styling includes a “coffin-nose” front profile with a louvered wraparound grille, a rear-hinged hood, hideaway headlights raised via dash-mounted hand cranks, concealed door hinges, and a split windshield. This example is said to have been fitted with a replacement fender that was sourced from a supercharged model before it was repainted in its current tan. Features include chrome bumpers with overriders, an antenna, rear-hinged front doors, and a flat-back trunk. Cracks in the left-rear door window can be seen in the gallery, and scratches are noted by the seller.

The body-color steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with 6.50–16 BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall bias-ply tires. A spare wheel is mounted in the trunk. The 810/812 utilized a front-wheel-drive configuration with independent, trailing arm front suspension, and Richardson front axle joints were installed under previous ownership. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel Lockheed-Wagner hydraulic drums.

1936 Cord 810 Westchester

A burgundy headliner, front seatback, carpets, and door trim accent pleated tan upholstery over the front and rear bench seats as well as the door panels. Other equipment includes dual gloveboxes, an AM radio, and a Stewart-Warner South Wind heater. An Optimus cassette player has been added under the dash. Loose seams and damage on the upholstery can be seen in the gallery.

The ivory-color three-spoke steering wheel fronts the Bendix gear pre-selector mounted on the right side of the steering column. Instrumentation set in the engine-turned panel includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 5k-rpm tachometer, oil pressure and water temperature gauges, and an ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows under 68k miles, approximately 60 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

1936 Cord 810 Westchester

The 288ci Lycoming V8 features horizontal valves, three main bearings, and aluminum cylinder heads. It was rated at 125 horsepower when new. An aftermarket chrome air cleaner is installed.

1936 Cord 810 Westchester

Shifting is through a four-speed manual transaxle built by the Detroit Gear and Machine Company. The driver selects a gear using a fingertip control mounted on the right side of the steering column, and depressing the clutch pedal completes an electrical circuit and activates a vacuum cylinder mounted on top of the transaxle, which then completes the gear change. The fuel tank was reportedly overhauled under the seller’s father’s ownership.

1936 Cord 810 Westchester

The chassis tag is stamped with engine number FB1514 and serial number 2239A.

1936 Cord 810 Westchester

The collection of spare parts includes a cylinder head, wheel rims, gaskets, clutch components, and electrical equipment. An owner’s manual and additional literature is also included in the sale.

The Washington title lists a Classic brand.
