Another Audi RSQ to Grace a Will Smith Movie

In a surprise move today, Audi Sport teased on Facebook what appears to be the four rings’ latest product placement effort in the form of a sole image of a drawing. The image is a promotional piece for next year’s animated Spies in Disguise movie, including a car dubbed the RSQ e-tron.

For those keeping count, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen an Audi named RSQ in a movie. The first version was a silver sportscar with an R8-like profile that was the star car in the future-based Will Smith film iRobot. Rather than wheels, that RSQ had four rolling balls that allowed it to move in unlikely ways.

Fast forward to today. Spies in Disguise is another movie starring Will Smith. It’s an animated Spy theme that IMDB describes simply. ”

Lance and Walter. One is a super cool and charming spy, and the other invents the super cool gadgets Lance uses. When an event happens, they must learn to rely on each other like never before in order to save the world.

There are a few recurring Audi cinematic recurrences going on here beyond the Will Smith Association. His co-star in this upcoming movie is also Tom Holland, the very same actor who currently plays Spider-Man. Audi was the car of choice for Holland’s break-out Spider-Man movie, and we recently ran a story confirming Audi’s role in the next Spider-Man installment.

The most interesting recurrence is the name itself. It’s interesting that Audi chose to re-use the RSQ name. Obviously, Ingolstadt is emphasizing that this RSQ is electric powered as it also gets the e-tron moniker. It’s likely the first RSQ was electric as well given its futuristic placement, but that car pre-dated the e-tron brand name at Audi.

The last detail about Spies in Disguise is that a preview is expected to drop tomorrow based on the Audi Sport Facebook post. We’ll make sure to run it when we see it.
