HYBRID TEA
ROSES
The name ‘hybrid tea’ came about because they originated
from the old Tea Roses.
The old Tea Roses had a scent of freshly picked tea.
Although they produced very beautiful flowers they were not
very hardy and were very prone to a range of diseases.
Over the years and through very selective breeding the
modern Hybrid Tea has improved tremendously and is now
fully hardy and far better at fending off disease.
Hybrid Teas are very much the most popular form of rose and
come in a kaleidoscope of colours and fragrances.
For feeding, pruning etc see the Rose Care Page on Main Menu
The first Hybrid Tea LA FRANCE appeared in 1867.
A WHITER SHADE OF PALE (Peafanfare)
Hybrid Tea Rose. 2006. 3ft-4ft.
A stunning new rose for our Hybrid Tea section.
As its name suggests, superb high centred white blooms with a hint of pale blush
pink.
The blooms are large and perfectly formed and withstand all weathers.
Repeats well and the blooms come in flushes throughout the season.
Dark semi-glossy foliage.
An easy to grow variety with a good health record.
For the best results, plant in full sun, dead head regularly, feed and water well and you will have a wonderful
show from spring until the first frosts.
Bred by Colin Pearce who is renowned for breeding good healthy roses and this stunner in no exception.
Superb fragrance.
ADRIANA (Frydesire)
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1999. 2ft-3ft.
Gorgeous shapely blooms of delicate pale cream, deepening to creamy caramel.
A lovely healthy tough rose with masses of blooms throughout the summer and into
autumn.
The spent blooms should be removed regularly to promote further blooms and
keep the bush tidy.
Good disease resistance
A good bedding rose as the blooms last quite a while and always seems to have a
good show.
A very beautiful rose with a lovely spicy fragrance.
ALEC’S RED (Cored)
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1970. 4ft
Hybrid Tea Roses
Most catalogues would describe the flowers on this rose as 'Turkey red' although
the colour does fade a little with age.
The large flowers and the fantastic scent have enabled this variety to stay
popular for many years.
It is a vigorous plant with dark green healthy foliage and repeats well
It comes into flower earlier in the season than most other roses so has a
good long flowering period..
Named after a well known Scottish rose grower who started breeding late in
life, and this was his first big success and is now grown all over the world.
An excellent garden rose but does not always do well in a container.
We used to stock the climbing version but it did not prove popular as it had a limited flowering period.
ALPINE SUNSET
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1974. 2ft-3ft
Hybrid Tea Roses
A beautiful Hybrid Tea where the large blooms are a lovely luminous combination
of peaches, pinks, apricots, creams and yellows.
The huge globular blooms are borne on firm stems on a neat compact plant.
Healthy light green shiny foliage sets the blooms off to perfection.
It is repeat flowering but there is often a short break between the summer flush
and the next flush, because the bush takes a little time to recover after producing
its large exhibition quality blooms in quantity.
Quite a stunning rose plus the bonus of a great perfume.
Good disease resistance.
Quite hardy in a normal winter, but may need protection from frost in a severe winter.
APHRODITE (Tan00847)
Hybrid Tea Rose. 2006. 2ft-3ft
As very beautiful Hybrid Tea rose which certainly lives up to its name.
Stunning blooms of pale pink and apricot blends in abundance.
The blooms are weather resistant and hold their colour and form well, right through
the summer, and look superb at any time during their flowering season.
The tough leathery mid green foliage sets the blooms off to perfection, and the whole
effect is one of great beauty.
As an added bonus the bush has excellent health, good disease resistance and a lovely
spicy fragrance.
Not very tall for a Hybrid Tea so can be grown in a container as a specimen rose or looks great as a group in
the garden.
To cap it all it makes a great cut rose for indoors as the fragrant blooms last well in water.
Gareth Fryer of Fryer's Roses has raised a series of excellent large flowered roses in
recent years, and this is one of his best.
The blooms exhibit the classis form associated with the best of the class; elegant in
bud, full of broad petals and forming a beautiful high centre that lasts for days in
cool weather.
The colour is coppery orange in the bud, lightening to coppery yellow with veins of
pale salmon as the blooms expand.
Good repeat habit throughout the summer.
A healthy vigorous plant with dark green foliage.
and the star of Eastenders on TV.
Delicate pink flowers borne in large trusses and set off by mid green foliage.
Flowers throughout the season from late spring to the first frosts.
We were very surprised and pleased with the amount of blooms this excellent
rose produced in the first year.
The following season was even better with a wonderful show and even more blooms.
If you are looking to fill your garden with colour this one will be hard to beat.
BELLE EPOQUE (Fryyaboo)
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1994. 3ft-5ft.
A beautiful feature of this large flowered rose is the two-toned effect within
the flower.
The inside of the petals are a pretty golden bronze, while the outside surface
is deeper--- the raiser calls it 'nectarine bronze'.
The colours make a delightful contrast as the flowers expand.
They have long buds, big petals and the high centred form of the classic large
flowered rose.
The flowers continue to appear through summer and autumn on vigorous
plants that are taller than the average for a hybrid tea.
A healthy rose with ample dark green foliage and a good disease resistance.
A good bedding variety and an excellent rose for cutting.
A beautiful rose with a lovely perfume which is one of our favourite hybrid tea roses.
BLUE MOON (Tannacht)
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1964. 4ft
Hybrid Tea Roses
This is deservedly the most commercially successful of the 'blue' roses
being very close to the blue side of lavender.
The flowers are large and full petalled with high centres and good
symmetry of form, and they last well, finally opening cupped to show
the stamens.
Usually there is only one flower on the long stems, which makes them
excellent for cutting.
They are sweetly fragrant, and are produced through summer and
autumn.
Needs a little loving care to get the best results, but is well worth the
effort.
Hybrid Tea Roses
This popular award winning large flowered rose has
certainly stood up well against new varieties.
Its fully doubled blooms are well formed from the
been widely used on the rose show bench for exhibition
purposes and have won many prizes for their
crispness of style.
harshness of tone, while the outer petals sometimes
carry some tinges of pink, and the open flowers can
often be seen with an edged overlay of pink.
ICE CREAM (Korzuri)
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1992. 3ft-4ft.
We had this lovely rose a few seasons ago but surprisingly it was not
very popular.
However we have had it requested so many times this season we have
re-introduced it.
Beautiful white blooms with cream and pink tints all summer long
Makes a superb cut flower and is possibly one of the best white roses.
A nice healthy rose with good disease resistance.
Scented.
INDIAN SUMMER (Peaperfume)
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1991. 3ft-4ft.
A very unusual colour for a hybrid tea rose.
The creamy orange blooms are full petalled and flower continuously
through summer and well into autumn, and the blooms are pretty
weather resistant and will survive any thing the weather can throw at
them.
Dark green healthy glossy foliage.
A very beautiful and attractive rose with an excellent perfume.
This wonderful rose has been acclaimed in rose trials all over the world, which gives a good indication of its
performance.
The high quality blooms are velvet red, fully double and hold their colour well, and the new flowering shoots
appear freely after each flush of bloom.
It has vigorous upright growth and dark green leathery leaves.
A superb strong rose which is almost entirely disease resistant.
Worth a place in every rose garden as it gives so much pleasure.
IRENE’S DELIGHT
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1978. 3ft-4ft.
A very beautiful hybrid tea with unusually large blooms of a bright
cerise pink.
A good repeat flowering habit, and a super cut flower for the house.
A Registered Exhibition Variety so the blooms should be outstanding..
May need a bit of TLC to get the best results but is well worth the effort
for the blooms.
A real stunner in bloom with a terrific perfume.
IRIS (Coczero)
Hybrid Tea Rose. 2006. 3ft.
A lovely new rose with classic hybrid tea shaped blooms which looks a real winner.
Intense coral pink blooms, which are borne singly and in clusters,
which helps to maintain a long lasting and colourful display.
Plenty of blooms right through the season and they are all a good
shape and colour.
Upright bushy growth, with abundant large, dark green glossy foliage.
A super rose for cutting as the stunning blooms last well in water and
fill the room with their lovely perfume.
A great rose for the garden with its stunning colour, and not too tall so
should do well in a container.
A good health record, so far.
Not widely known at the moment, but this will all change when it is
seen in more gardens.
IRISH GOLD
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1966. 3ft-4ft.
Hybrid Tea Roses
This popular award winning large flowered rose has certainly stood up well
against new varieties.
Its fully doubled blooms are well formed from the bud all the way through to
opening, and they have been widely used on the rose show bench for exhibition
purposes and have won many prizes for their crispness of style.
The blooms are a pleasing yellow, without any harshness of tone, while the
outer petals sometimes carry some tinges of pink, and the open flowers can
often be seen with an edged overlay of pink.
A good bush for any garden but keep it well away from the pathway as it has
many thorns.
The mid green leaves are extremely glossy on growth that is strong and
stout. Tends to get a little black spot but can easily be kept under control with regular spraying.
ISN’T SHE LOVELY (Dicllivit)
Hybrid Tea Rose. 2007. 2ft-3ft.
A truly appropriate name for a classic HT which has superb lasting quality.
The pointed buds are creamy gold with a slight pink edge, and they open to
ivory with a centre showing deep tones of pink and gold. Some blooms can
appear to be completely ivory.
A true HT as it produces only single full petalled blooms which are approximately
4 -5ins in diameter.
Bushy dense foliage which is dark green and slightly glossy.
A good strong rose with excellent disease resistance and a pleasant fragrance.
Stunning large salmon orange blooms are almost fluorescent against
the dark shiny foliage.
A very healthy rose with plenty of blooms throughout the summer
and into autumn.
Quite a show stopper in full bloom and really stands out in the
crowd.
Quite a lot of blooms for a hybrid tea so keep it tidy by dead heading
regularly.
Makes a good cut flower as the showy blooms fill the room with colour
and last well in water.
Prune quite hard in the spring to get the best results .
Should be planted in full sun.
Not a powerful perfume, but very pleasant.
JOHN WATERER
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1970. 3ft-4ft.
This variety is a superb dark red that has a good production of flowers
and quickly and freely reproduces each crop of bloom.
It has many winning points. The perfume is good without being strong,
it has a classic form and, with a larger than average sized bloom, it has a
presence rarely found in a rose.
Makes a lovely cut flower as the blooms last well in water, and looking at
the photograph will produce a fabulous indoor show in a vase.
Good strong growth with a vigorous and branching habit and fairly
healthy.
Has been popular for over thirty years and will continue to do so for
many years to come.
A truly desirable rose and everything that a Hybrid Tea should be.
Highly Recommended.
their brilliance and form from beginning to end.
The new foliage is quite distinctive and changes from reddish to green
as the season unfolds.
Josephine makes an impressive and conspicuous addition to any garden.
The huge blooms repeat well, and with regular dead heading will
keep repeating until the first frosts.
Hardy and good disease resistance with a full fruity fragrance.
Hybrid Tea Roses
We have re-introduced this rose as we have had so many requests
for it this season.
Lovely dark red blooms which repeat well right through the season.
The blooms expand slowly from the large buds and the blooms are
long lasting.
It has a sweet apple fragrance which is possibly the reason for so
many requests.
Highly recommended for its colour but does need loving care and
attention.
Prone to a bit of mildew later in the season but that can be kept under
control with spraying.
JULIA’S ROSE
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1976. 3ft-4ft.
This is a most popular rose, no doubt because of its
unusual colouring.
The flowers are various shades of copper, parchment
and brown, all mixed in to a handsome tone that intensifies
dramatically in cool to cold conditions.
There is also a slight hint of blue, which is not surprising
as one of the parents are the ever popular 'Blue
Moon'
'Julia's Rose' has a place in every collection although
it is not the strongest of growers and needs plenty of
TLC but the rewards are there if you make the extra
effort.
Flowers well for most of the season and has handsome reddish foliage, the combination being the flower arrangers
dream.
Not a strong perfume but very pleasant.
JUST JOEY
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1972. 3ft-4ft.
This beautiful award winning rose has been popular
for over thirty years and will stay that way for many
years to come.
It has big, loose double flowers that are an orange
blend, usually in small clusters.
They are well recommended for cutting as the
blooms last well in water and are quite a show on
display in the home.
They have a good long flowering period and will
keep on flowering as long as dead heading is done
regularly.
The bush is sprawling and grows to medium height,
while the leaves are dark green and healthy.
Makes an excellent bedding rose .
It is hard to compare 'Just Joey' with other large
flowered roses, as the richness of the flower and the
looseness of the form make it so exciting and unusual.
Not a powerful perfume but very distinct and pleasing.
This lovely rose which is an excellent bedding rose has lost its popularity
It is a vigorous and upright bush with very few thorns that
The perfectly formed blooms are nearly always borne one bloom to a
stem.
The long lasting flowers are supported on lengthy stems and a superb
rose for cutting.
Requires a warm spot and full sun to get the best show of blooms.
Likes a bit of TLC so dead head regularly and feed twice a year and the
results are well worth the extra effort.
The large blooms are a real eye catcher in any garden plus the bonus of a
pleasant perfume.
Glossy dark green foliage.
It was discovered by Len Wood, who was President of The National Rose Society from 1987-88 who was a
keen exhibitor himself.
He named this beautiful rose for his wife.
MY LOVE (Cogamo)
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1960. 3ft-4ft.
A great favourite of ours with lovely high centred deep red blooms
which repeat well.
Dark green disease resistant foliage.
The blooms hold their colour well and are ideal for cutting.
This lovely rose has been around a while and is as popular as ever.
Looks fabulous as a specimen plant in the garden, but looks even better
as a group.
Will last for many years in the garden, and is far better value than a
bunch of cut florist roses that will only last a few days.
Give this beautiful rose to a loved one and put the romance back into
your life.
MYRIAM (Cocgrand)
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1992. 3ft-4ft.
This beautiful hybrid tea, in our opinion is one of the best in its class.
Lovely full blooms of rose pink which are ideal for cutting as they last well
in water.
The superbly shaped blooms are produced one to a stem with no clustering.
A tall upright habit with semi-glossy green foliage.
Very good repeat flowering performance with the added bonus of a superb
fragrance.
The parents of this rose are both famous in their own right, and they have
successfully transmitted their best qualities to their offspring.
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1997. 3ft-4ft
Every now and again a rose is bred that takes your breath away with its
beauty and perfume, and this is definitely one of them.
A rose of extreme beauty that ticks all the boxes and lives up to its
name when planted in the garden.
The bi-colour flowers have deep red colouring with a cream reverse
and the odd white splash on the petals.
Upright growth with good reddish foliage, turning green as it matures.
Repeat flowering but will do best in full sun and rich compost or soil.
For outstanding results give it a little TLC and it will reward you over
and over again.
Good disease resistance.
With such a lovely name it makes a beautiful gift or remembrance rose.
open to reveal dark velvety-crimson high centred blooms of
exquisite form.
Sends out one bloom per stem on long straight stems which are
ideal for cutting. Quite a good repeat cycle through the summer.
Dead head regularly to speed up the re-blooming cycle.
Leathery olive green glossy foliage.
Not the hardiest of roses and needs a cosy spot to thrive.
Hardly a rose for the beginner as it is quite difficult to grow successfully
, needs regular spraying to keep it clean, and is quite a
challenge even for an experienced rose grower. However despite
its flaws it is considered to be one of the most beautiful red roses
makes the variety an excellent cutting rose, especially as the
blooms hold their shape and last well in water.
It is a good rose for general garden use, flowering on through
summer and autumn though tending to produce a flush of
bloom followed by a pause.
The bonus of this variety is its ability to keep on flowering, for its rare during summer and autumn not to to
The scarlet and gold buds open to medium size blooms which are bright yellow and attractively tipped and
UNCLE WALTER
Hybrid Tea Rose. 1963. 4ft plus.
Hybrid Tea Roses
The flowers of this variety are crimson scarlet, high centred and
fairly large, with about 30 wide petals, and open rather loosely on
very tall stems.
They are often carried in open clusters, and the overall effect is
more like a big shrub than a large flowered bush.
Flowers well and the continuity of bloom is maintained through
summer and autumn.
'Uncle Walter' needs carefully placing or it will dominate its
neighbours; towards the back of a border is a suitable place, or it
could be treated as a short climber and grown on a support.
It grows very vigorously with a tall, free branching habit to well
above average height.
The leaves are large, crimson when young, then maturing to bronze green, and plentiful.
A very healthy rose with a pleasant perfume.
