Family and friends gathered Thursday to say their goodbyes to a North Omaha icon.
Patricia “Big Mama” Barron passed away last Friday. Barron was the force behind Big Mama's Kitchen and a prominent figure in the North Omaha community. Barron's food caught the attention of the Food Network. Her restaurant was featured in an episode of Diners Drive-Ins and Dives.
In honor of "Big Mama" family and friends met at her restaurant before her funeral. On display at the iconic restaurant were plenty of family pictures. Family members who made it to say "goodbye" say it was fitting they had everyone stick together. The family all went to the service together on this bus Thursday morning.
The service was held at the Fort Street Church of Christ.

Big Mama's last wish was for her daughters and family to carry on her passion for serving delicious soul food from the restaurant, Big Mama's Kitchen And Catering, which she so dearly loved. The restaurant will be open normal hours this weekend with a special Easter Lunch served on Sunday. Hours of operation this weekend will be:
Saturday, March 31st from 8-5
Sunday, April 1st from 10-3
The restaurant will be closed Monday - Thursday, April 2-5th to enable Big Mama's family & friends to celebrate her life and will reopen next Friday, April 6th at 11am.
