WATCH FACES: Journos put G-Shock Mudman through its paces

Casio unveiled a fresh line of G-Shock Mudman watches this month with a day of bushcraft instruction for a hardy band of British scribblers.

Casio unveiled a fresh line of G-Shock Mudman watches this month with a day of bushcraft instruction for a hardy band of British journalists.

The GW-9500 Mudman, as its name suggests, will survive extreme shocks, temperatures, 200 metres of water and any amount of mud and dirt you can throw at it.

Still an oversized watch at 53mm across, it is 3.4mm slimmer than previous Mudmans but has a dual-layer LCD face for improved readability and a new digital compass.

Writers from outdoors, tech and watch titles gathered at a camp in Surrey’s North Downs for a day learning how to navigate using the watch, make a fire using a flint and kindling, and a photo op putting the indestructible watches through their paces searching for clues in mud-filled sink holes.

They are on sale now in three colourways priced at £349.
