Brooklyn Beckham almost followed in his father's world-famous footballer footsteps, but says his star sign is to blame for holding him back from achieving athletic greatness.
The son of David and Victoria Beckham opened up to Bustle about life as a newly-married man and his long, winding journey to discovering what he's truly passionate about. As a teenager, Beckham briefly considered becoming a footballer himself, playing in the same position his father played for Arsenal’s academy, which feeds directly into the football club's pro team. But ultimately, he decided to end his athletic career right there at age 15. “I have a lot of anxiety. And to try and live up to what my dad did, it was just like, it got to the point where I was just, like, I really just want to make my own name for myself and work my arse off," he explained before adding, “I’m a Pisces. Sensitive.”
From there, Beckham went on to try his hand at photography, quickly booking a gig shooting a Burberry fragrance campaign at just 16 years old and releasing a coffee table book with Rizzoli in 2017. After finding so much success in the industry, he enrolled at Parsons School of Design to study his craft further, but dropped out a year later. Beckham explained to the outlet that he “simply didn’t love photography enough to make it his life.” From there, he became a TV chef, landing an eight-episode series for Facebook Messenger called Cookin’ With Brooklyn, much to the consternation of much of the internet. “I’m not a professional chef—at all,” Beckham told the outlet. “I’ve never said that. I never would say that. Obviously, my dad knew what he was doing at a very young age. I’ve only been doing cooking for not even three years.” He adds, “It’s OK to be 25, 26 or even 30 and not know what you’re doing yet. You know what I mean?”
But one thing Beckham does have figured out is his personal life, admitting that while he'd never heard the term “wife guy” before, it suits him pretty perfectly. “Definitely, definitely,” he replied when asked if he identifies with the internet meme. “I mean this is definitely a woman’s world. And guys are just living in it. The girls are in charge.” He went on to explain that he and his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham have actually known each other for years as Beckham was really good friends with two of her brothers, “But we never really hung out before then. And I was always shy. When I did see her, I was always shy because I thought she was so gorgeous and so nice,” he revealed. “And then, just before the pandemic, I took her on a date right around Halloween. It was either on Halloween night or the day after. And we just really got along. Yeah, been inseparable since.” In fact, he said that when he proposed to her after just six months of dating, Peltz asked him, “What took you so long?”
