Steve-O’s latest stunt—duct-taping himself to a Hollywood billboard to promote his upcoming comedy special—has come to an end. On Thursday, Los Angeles firefighters brought him back down to safety shortly after the Jackass star shared photos and videos of himself taped to the billboard on Instagram, assuring onlookers that he had been safely secured for the stunt.

“[I] want to emphasize that a team of real professionals rigged everything safely,” he wrote. “There is zero chance of me falling, and it’s important to me that we not waste any valuable city resources on this. I’m happy to just hang out, and really want the world to know about this project I worked so hard on. It’s called Gnarly and, If you’re over 18, check it out at steveo.com! Thanks!”

He also shared a video of himself on his Instagram Stories, saying he had been taped to the billboard for an hour and a half and was “starting to get kinda sore.” He also added that cops had started to gather under the billboard, but “they say they’re not sure that I’m committing any crimes. I don’t think so. I paid for the billboard, man.”

Of course, despite his pleas that the city not waste any resources, the Los Angeles Fire Department dispatched firefighters to the billboard on 1700 block of North Cahuenga Boulevard. While removing him, the firefighters blocked lanes so they could bring him back down to the street, according to CBS Los Angeles, walking him down to safety on a ladder.

This kind of thing is par for the course for Steve-O, a stunt performer and daredevil centerpiece of the Jackass cinematic universe, in which he’s done everything from snort wasabi to strap himself in a filthy porta-potty that gets launched into the air on a bungee cord. In the scheme of things, getting (safely?) duct-taped to a billboard, then escorted down by firefighters is nowhere near one of the most bizarre things he’s done. (Though it would be weird if he, say, took the relaxed David Lynch promotional stunt route and sat calmly with a cow on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard.) Gnarly, Steve-O’s upcoming special, looks to be more of the same, a parade of gross pranks alongside friends like Johnny Knoxville and Jason “Weeman” Acuña.
