LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Scott Patterson is excited for the return of Gilmore Girls as he steps back into the role of Luke Danes.

"I was very, very determined to bring it back," the actor said recently while speaking with ELLE.

"I just thought the fans deserved it. I've been on other shows and I've known people on historic shows, but the fanbase for this show is amazing. It's a religion to them. They get up and they watch it every morning before they go to work. They have to have it. It is beyond just fandom. Dedication on that level? Why not take up the cause and try to move the needle a little bit," he continued.

Patterson will appear again as the backwards baseball cap wearing Danes in Netflix's upcoming four-part revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. "It's something I thought would never happen," he said of the revival.

The actor said he had to work his way back into the character.

"When we were about to shoot in the diner I couldn't quite get him. I didn't feel like I had him. I had to take a walk around Stars Hollow and re-live things and smell it and sense it and feel it. And it didn't take long. I went back in and said, 'Alright, good to go,'" he said.

Patterson however would not confirm or deny if Danes is still together with Lorelai Gilmore, portrayed by Lauren Graham. "The chemistry there is so electric," he added of working with Graham. "From my side of the aisle, it's undeniable. It's a level of passion that comes along once in a lifetime. And that's how I chose to play it."

The pair were last seen on Gilmore Girls seemingly back together as the original series came to a close. In May, the onscreen lovebirds shared a selfie together as production on the revival wrapped up.

The four 90-minute episodes of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will launch on Netflix starting Nov. 25.

Recently, Graham made headlines after she declared that the series is "sneakily feminist."
