No ETC Cup for Richard Göransson

2005 ETC Cup champion Richard Göransson will not be on the grid next week at Estoril. The team has not got the funds required for the event. “We are not going to the race. The money was not available for us in such short time after the STCC season. We wanted to do a good job and defend the title,” Göransson said.

“I had some plans to drive the race at Estoril for another team, but I don’t think that will happen. I wanted to drive the race with my own car.”

Instead Göransson will follow the event on TV and wishes his fellow Swedes the best of luck in the event.

“I hope our four Swedes will do a good job in the race. I think Rosenblad and Rudholm can score high.”

Last year one of Göransson’s closest competitors for the title was WTCC-driver Alessandro Zanardi. Göransson predicts him to be one of the drivers with best chance for the total win.

“I think Zanardi will do very well again. I beat him last year and think I could have beaten him again,” Göransson said with a smile.

Next year Göransson will continue in the Swedish Touring Car Championship with Flash Engineering. The team is aiming to continue their strong form from the last couple of races this season.

“We are already very excited for next season. I have no other plans but to continue with Flash Engineering. We ended this season in a very strong way. The last victories we took were very superior. We are aiming to continue our strong form next season and I am confident that we will.”
