What didn't he have then? He had resident evil and tomb raider Again, I haven't played that thing since 97 but it was a 3D console

A Sega Saturn

The Sega Saturn generally speaking did not handle 3D as well as the PSX. I don't know about Resident Evil, but Tomb Raider is certainly inferior.

I'm color blind and it's been 20 years...so I'm not trying to be right or argue...but the Saturn looks better there. It just seems like the PSX does shadows and lighting better

That guys face looks better on saturn

Outside of the characters the playstation looks better in every way there.

But yea Sega looks more detailed on the male for sure.

it's kind of all over the place

PSX the lighting is better, laura looks better, but the SS has more textures or whatever makes the rocks look more like dirty rocks, and the male character looks better

regardless, I was just reminiscing...I had fun with those 2 games when i'd stay at my friend's house.

That's a weird screenshot to me. Lara looks better on the playstation but the guy looks noticeably better on the saturn.

Just shows you that they were still figuring out 3D rendering at that time.

it's amazing how much better it looks in our memories. those games were photo realism at the time IMO

then you see a game like GTA3 almost 20 years later and wonder how you were even able to play it.

Both PS1 and PS2 outsold the Wii by a large margin. The N64 was a flop. The Wii had all of 3 games worth a damn in it and even those were questionable compared to former games (the Zelda games for Wii were terrible compared to the ones before it).

did it sell more than sony? no. was it a flop? frick no. it has 3 or 4 medium defining games. PSX had more games, 64 had better games and no shortage of them.

The Wii had all of 3 games worth a damn
there were a ton of bullshite 3rd party games and the list of awesome wii games isn't going to blow anyone away, but 3?

there are a ton of awesome games that are shite when held to such standards...and Mario galaxy wasn't questionable compared to former games, it was is the best Mario game ever made and although it's unfair to hold games 10 years apart to the same standards...it was better than Mario 64 even though i like 64 better.

you have several decent points obfuscated by hyperbole.

i'm not a fan of motion controls and while it made the wii a gimmicky seller, it made it inaccessible for 3rd party developers as did its hardware limitations. the wii u...dual screen is the same story except it didn't move units (also the wii u is the console with only 3 games worth a damn and i bought one because my wii broke)

if you play a shite ton of video games, buy a playstation or x box. if you like grittier more adult audience content, buy a playstation or an x box. if you have a casual gaming habit or slightly more than that...buy a switch

PS1 no, they are pretty much equal at around 101 million give or take a few hundred thousand. PS2 at 155 million yes but that is also the biggest selling home console of all time.

Straight false.

You're moving the goalposts. And the PlayStation 1 did not outsell the Wii by a large margin.

You're being ridiculous now.

it was also just such a jump for me personally in photo realism. seeing the madden demos at the mall on Christmas was eye popping. also the gaming audience was growing older and the ps2 was the system with games that reflected that. it had so many kick arse awesome games and yet today i find almost all of them unplayable.

there's a decent point hidden in his statement about Nintendo games not being as good as earlier entries...the thing is those earlier entries are some of the best games ever made period. if i compare every game to Mario 64, ocarina of time and Metroid prime (which i just played last year for the first time) then most every game i play sucks balls

"wii didn't have a lot of awesome games" ok, reasonable. i agree though not fully because i was such a late adopter.

"wii had 3 good games" fricking ridiculous.

If people are willing to be honest, the PS2 sold as well as it did in large part b/c it doubled as a DVD player. People forget how much those things used to cost if you bought a name brand player.

yeah. i forget about that every time too. dvd is obsolete now but at the time it was the emerging new format and they were expensive...but i think that was the first system where i think video games began aging with players. i would say that without the PS2 i would probably be 100% video game free today. but then i got even older and missed the charm of the earlier games on older systems.

the gamecube has aged better. i see the games and i don't find them ugly or super outdated. some of them i don't even find outdated at all.

the ps2 was the better system at the time for teenagers and older. dvd player (i was at boarding school and this was awesome for me) and adult games (i was in high school and immature and stealing cars and killing hookers post car sex was the coolest fricking thing on the planet)

but now that the dust has settled...and i had a ps2 and not a gamecube...the gamecube is more appealing both aesthetically and for the types of games.

This whole thread is a nightmare. People wanting to shite on Nintendo because it's the cool thing to do. But they are easily in the top 2. You could go either way with whose more successful over time Sony or Nintendo. I do find myself more likely to play an older Nintendo game than I do something on the PS2.

Nintendo is awesome, they deserve bc all the credit they get for single handily saving the video game industry.

People shite on them bc "all they have is Mario Zelda," etc. But it was Mario and Zelda that kept video games alive and saved them from the great crash in 1983.

Nintendo gets the credit for making video games about the story and becoming characters and not the high score.

Without the NES/famicom you don't have PlayStation or Xbox.

At the time I'd take ps2 again but the games strived for hyper realism so they haven't aged well

It's a dumb hypothetical anyway. im just pointing out that most PSX, PS2 and n64 games are virtually unplayable they're so dated.

Shadows of the empire for example was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen. Camera and virtually all of the gameplay is so dated, I can't play it

Maybe I'm just not far enough removed but I don't feel that way about PS3. I think the hardware was such that the games will age very well. GameCube doesn't have too many titles I would play but they've aged better than the ps2 games and I don't think that's an uncommon view. Add to that a lot of those games that appealed to me at 17, 18 don't appeal to me as much or at all. Part of it is I didn't have the GameCube so I want to play new games more than ones I've played into the dirt so there's a bias there

People just want to shite on anything. It's like some kind of weird sports rivalry.

PS2 was awesome at the time, PS3 is still awesome. X box too. People like what they like.
