LA Galaxy confirm David Beckham statue in honour of Man United legend
Golden Balls shocked the world in 2007 when joining the MLS side from Real Madrid as he paved the way for other stars such as Thierry Henry and David Villa to follow him Stateside
DAVID BECKHAM will be immortalised by former club LA Galaxy next month in honour of his five years at the club.
The Major League Soccer side are unveiling a statue of the ex-England hero at their ground ahead of the season’s opener against Chicago Fire March 2.
Galaxy have confirmed the tribute after it came to light in an email to season-ticket holders and it is the first such honour to be bestowed among a player from the American top-flight.
Beckham, who is launching his own MLS side to rival Galaxy, is expected be in attendance for the opening - and will be hoping for a better bust than those created for Mo Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Manchester United legend was the first superstar name to join the league via its Designated Player Rule - which has now been branded “The Beckham Rule” - allowing high-profile players to earn more than the standard salary cap.
Becks arrived in 2007 as he paved the way for fellow worldwide names such as Thierry Henry, David Villa and Frank Lampard to later follow suit and head Stateside.
After an injury blighted start to life in California and a loan move to AC Milan, the former Real Madrid winger quickly showed his right foot still possessed some of the magic that made him a hero to English fans.
Becks, married to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham and who he has boys Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz plus daughter Harper with, has helped Galaxy to claim Supporters Shield crowns in 2010 and 2011 as well as two MLS Cup successes.

But that is not his only on-field interest as he remains very much involved across the pond in their top-flight.
