ERIK TEN HAG said farewell to the Ajax faithful following his last game in charge for the club before taking over at Manchester United.

Ajax picked up a 2-2 draw away from home, as Edson Alvarez rescued a point against Vitesse, but the day belonged to Ten Hag as he ended his five year stint at the club.

The Dutch side secured the Eredivisie title after a 5-0 thrashing of Heerenveen last week, with Ten Hag making it three in a row domestically.

His send off looked to be heading for a sour ending, after a Lois Openda brace put Vitesse 2-1 up in the second half.

But a late Alvarez strike at least saw Ten Hag leave on an unbeaten performance, as he saluted the travelling support.

The Dutchman will now begin his duties at Old Trafford, where he'll look to recover from what's been a miserable season.

The Red Devils are set to finish the season more than 30 points off the title and outside the Champions League places.

That's despite the summer acquisitions of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo for nearly £100million.

Ten Hag will be the next big name manager to try and bring the good times back to Old Trafford, with United without a league title since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson.

He will also be the second Dutchman at the helm since Fergie's 2013 departure, with fellow former Ajax boss Louis Van Gaal in charge from 2014-2016.

Despite winning the FA Cup in his final game in charge, Van Gaal was replaced by Jose Mourinho prior to the 2016-17 season.

Ten Hag's reign will begin on the right foot for United fans, as leaked images show Cristiano Ronaldo modelling next season's kits - hinting the star could be staying at Old Trafford next season.
