This absolutely massive cat is the toast of New York - and it's not hard to see why.

Samson is New York's biggest feline resident and has fans all over the world.

He is a massive 4ft long and and weighs 28lbs, and is often pictured using his human as a pillow.

The 4-year-old Maine Coon lives in the city with his owner Jonathan Zurbel.

Some people worried the cat was a little overweight and unhealthy.

However, his owner has confirmed he is in perfect health on his Instagram page.

He said (as his cat) - "People love to call a big kitty fat. My doctor came over for housecall and can vouch that I am a big beautiful healthy young cat!"

Though he is big, Maine Coon cats are naturally quite a lot larger than your average moggy.

MaineCoon.org says an average full-grown male Maine Coon weighs 15-25lbs, with an average length of 40 inches (3.3ft).

“He plays an excellent game of fetch, and he follows me from room to room and lays nearby, much like a dog,” Mr Zurbel told the New York Post.

However, he does not enjoy being walked around on a lead.

Instead, his owner wheels him around the city in a pram.

Samson is often mistaken for a lion or a wild cat by passers-by.

It is evident that he is not once they stop for a stroke - he is incredibly tame.

Caring for the cat is quite an expensive business.  The huge feline gobbles up to six cans of wet food a day and several bags of dry food each week.

In addition, he goes through almost 4 pounds of litter a week, and needs costly grooming of his long, thick fur.

It seems worth it, though - he is extremely cuddly.
