Sony Ericsson Yari Gaming Phone

Mobile phone gaming will now experience a complete new dimension with the latest invention – Gesture gaming. With an attempt to leave behind a button pushing operation, Sony Ericsson has raised the curtains off its latest gaming phone, dubbed the Yari, which debuts with Gesture gaming technology.

Gone are the days where people used to swell their hands while playing games on mobile phones as a push-button technique has become a thing of the past. Now, the movement of users’ body is a new trend for twisting, tilting, turning and smashing while playing. Yes, all by gestures!

Apart from that, if consumers feel that they want to try out something different, then a mix of pre-loaded motion and standard games are also available. Introducing a games carousel, the Yari enables users to access all the games stored on the desktop and even browse through downloadable content on PlayNow arena.

According to Catherine Cherry, Market Business Manager at Sony Ericsson, “Yari is the industry’s first mobile phone with gesture gaming outside of the Japanese market. It’s time to move like you’ve never moved on a mobile phone before! With Gesture gaming you move your body to play instead of pressing buttons on the phone, giving you a fun experience that even helps you keep fit. If you’ve exhausted yourself with the games there are loads of other multimedia features to enjoy. Snap your friends with the five megapixel camera or chill out to your favourite tunes with the state-of-the art music player”.

In addition to gaming, the Sony Ericsson Yari comes embedded with multimedia features such as the state-of-the art music player with stereo speakers, SensMe, Bluetooth stereo, album art, mega bass, PlayNow, shake control and TrackID.

Photographic functionalities include a 5.0 megapixel camera, up to 4x digital zoom, auto focus, face detection, geo tagging, photo feeds, photo fix, photo light, smile detection and video recording capability. Users can even transfer the images over the internet.

For surfing the internet, the mobile phone supports NetFront Web browser and provides access to Bookmarks, Google search and Web feeds. Users can even access e-mails, instant messaging services and Exchange ActiveSync.

Some of the other highlights include FM radio with RDS, Java, music call, tracker, YouTube and Walk mate – facilitating for an enhanced level of entertainment. Besides, users will also find PictBridge, A-GPS, Bluetooth technology, Google maps, USB and Modem.

Coming to the basic features, the Yari is equipped with a 2.4-inch screen with 240 x 320 pixels of resolution, up to 60MB of internal memory that can be expanded with SanDisk microSD card and support for GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as UMTS/HSUPA networks.

Bundled with the small and portable EC500 phone stand, the handset claims to escalate the gaming experience with an integrated key-ring for convenience in carrying while on the run. There is also the Outdoor Wireless Speaker MS500 that boosts the volume of music anywhere and everywhere.

Shining in achromatic black and cranberry white color tones, the Sony Ericsson Yari gaming phone stands at 100 x 48 x 15.7 mm and weighs 115 grams. It is expected to reach the selected markets by early Q4 of the year. However, there is no clarity on the pricing.
