This is Fariones, the emblematic and gastronomic hotel in Lanzarote

Among protected palm trees more than 40 years old is the Fariones Hotel, the first hotel in Lanzarote, a pioneer of luxury tourism and a gastronomic reference of the island of Lanzarote.

In Lanzarote, an island of volcanic landscapes and unique architecture, influenced by the Canarian artist César Manrique, is the Fariones hotel, ideal for getting lost and disconnecting (or reconnecting) and where you can also enjoy a good gastronomic tribute, one of those that we like so much at Tapas.

This emblematic 5-star hotel has 213 rooms, all with views of the Atlantic, Fuerteventura and Lobos Island. Located on the seafront you can access three beaches, almost private, as it has a direct access from the lounger to the sand. Its gardens are dreamlike, with palm trees of the last century and protected endemic plants that hide an infinity pool.

What was the first hotel on the island, after a complete renovation, opened its doors again in 2020. Rafael del Castillo, an interior designer from the Canary Islands, was in charge of the renovation, giving the hotel an eclectic essence, taking care of every detail in every corner of Fariones. The imposing library that presides over the lobby is a work of art in itself. And the concept store Room 214, a room that brings together the work of artisans and artists from various disciplines.

An authentic gastronomic tribute with products from its own farm

If we have already convinced you to wake up inside Fariones, imagine if we tell you that it has several gastronomic spaces, for all plans and times of the day: the Bella Lucia buffet restaurant for breakfast and dinner, La Barra Food & Drinks, for a snack at any time, Erizo Macaronesian Restaurant, where you can dine among palm trees, or Kaori by Victor Planas, Asian haute cuisine in the hands of one of the greats. Planas landed just a few months ago to renew the culinary proposal of the hotel’s gastronomic jewel.

Kaori by Víctor Planas Asian Concept 

As its name suggests, this Japanese cuisine restaurant is headed by Víctor Planas, who has more than 12 years of experience in charge of Ricardo Sanz’s projects at Kabuki and who is very familiar with the culinary techniques of the entire Asian continent, especially those of Japan.

But before talking about the gastronomic proposal, we must make special mention to the decoration of the restaurant, which follows the line that Rafael del Castillo has extended throughout the hotel. To enter Kaori is to know that the experience promises.

Our recommendation is, without a doubt, to travel thanks to its tasting menu, where you can find great dishes such as Akami with kha kai sauce, scallops with Japanese mushrooms with butter sauce, bull nigiris or lobster ramen tom yum. 

A visit to the restaurant’s sommelier, Ana, is a must. The pairing includes, among others, Canarian references or a wide variety of sakes.

Erizo Macaronesian Restaurant

It is only open for dinner, but it is well worth the wait. Erizo Macaronesian Restaurant offers a signature cuisine that covers the common points in flavors and products of the Macaronesian area, that is, the five archipelagos of the North Atlantic: Azores, Cape Verde, Canary Islands, Madeira and the Wild Islands.

They all have in common the good product and the sea, and that is what Erizo tastes like. On its fantastic terrace, dining among palm trees, the red shrimp ceviche with passion fruit tiger’s milk and mango or hake from La Graciosa, royal crayfish and butter sauce with Stratvs Naturalmente Dulce wine reduction is a must. The rice dishes ‘en llauna’ are another specialty and the melting cheesecake of Finca de Uga, a perdition.

La Barra Food & Drinks

In the hotel’s garden, La Barra is a technical stop during the day for a light lunch or dinner, where there is room for local produce, such as limpets with mojo, Uga salmon with its accompaniments or the selection of croquettes. You can also enjoy signature cocktails with live music. 

Finca de Uga: From the farm to the table

Luckily, in Lanzarote, there is the Finca de Uga, a wonderful farm that supplies the hotel and all its restaurants with produce. A livestock farm founded in 2006 that is located in the middle of the volcanic landscape of Lanzarote. Its farm is home to Majorero goats, Canary Island sheep and Jersey cows, and its cheese factory produces internationally recognized and award-winning cheeses.

But that’s not all, it has a space dedicated to the traditional cultivation of fruits and vegetables where we find orange, avocado, apple and fig trees, or a greenhouse that produces papayas, tomatoes, strawberries … always respecting the seasonality of the product.

Stratvs: from the winery, also at the table

If the zero kilometer products from their farm go directly to the table, we close the experience with the wines, which also go from their cellar to your glass. Stratvs, the family winery, is located in La Geria, a protected and unique landscape, the result of volcanic eruptions. With an architectural design fully integrated into the natural landscape of the area, it produces wines that taste of fire, earth and wind.

Although we know that with all that we have told you you will not feel like leaving the hotel, it is well worth a trip to this winery, and enjoy a glass of wine, while the sun sets over La Geria.
