Showy sprays of violet-blue beam up in spring from Ramonda myconi.
The cheery blooms are held proudly above a petite but neat & decorative rosette of crinkly foliage.

Ramonda myconi is commonly called the Pyrenean Violet because it is one of the treats of visiting the borderlands between France and Spain where the bulls run and spring is a magic carpet of flowers.

This dainty treasure is very frost hardy.
So if you can grow Primulas, you can also grow Ramonda myconi.
Because it enjoys the same conditions in Part Shade to Shade, where it forms a neat & hardy evergreen perennial clump.
So you can plant Primulas and Ramonda together, or group them as friends in a pot.
Ramonda enjoys soil that is enriched with compost, protected by mulch, and drains well, just like Primulas.
And as a native of rocky Pyrenean slopes, it is very serene in gravelly soil enriched with leaf mould.

Easy to grow, low maintenance perennial.

SOWING ADVICE: EASY

Sow seed of Ramonda myconi indoors in winter, spring or autumn / or scatter outdoors winter or spring (though the seed is so precious – you might like to keep it in a punnet so you know exactly where it is)

INDOORS: Sow seeds in punnets on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then press the seed gently into the surface of the mix to ensure good contact.
But do not cover the seeds, because these seeds need light to germinate.

Now thoroughly moisten the mix throughout, by standing the punnet in a shallow water bath and allowing the moisture to soak through from below until the surface is moist. Then remove.

Place the sown moist punnet in a well-lit position (but absolutely not in direct sunlight).
And cover with a clear plastic cover.

Temperatures of 15-20°C approx. are ideal for rapid and optimum germination.

Continue to keep the seed and mix moist by misting from a spray water bottle.

Seedlings emerge in approx. 28 days.

If the seeds are shy to germinate – Cling wrap moist punnet. Place in fridge (not freezer) for 4-6 weeks to mimic a winter chilling. Then remove, unwrap & return to well-lit position at 15-20°C approx.  Continue to keep moist until the seeds have germinated.

SEED COUNT: 10 seeds per pack (We have very few seeds of this rarely available treasure).
Care when opening the seed packet – because Ramonda seed is very fine.
