Very large stars of rich blue-violet, open from bells of buds, in late winter & early spring.
In fact Pulsatilla vulgaris ‘Blaue Glocke’ bears probably the largest of all the gorgeous Pasque Flowers.

Stunner for late winter-early spring

Pulsatilla vulgaris ‘Blaue Glocke’ is a stunner.
The petals seem to be cut from deepest, richest, blue-violet silk.
So the blooms are breathtakingly lovely during late winter and early spring, when you are desperate for colour after the long gloomy winter.
Certainly it is no surprise that ‘Blaue Glocke’ in German translates as “Blue Bells”.

Then harum-scarum silky seed heads for summer

In late winter the silky bells swell on 25cm. stems.
Then they open to stars during spring, beaming at you royally above a neat clump of the prettiest feathery foliage.
Though for me, the wildly harum-scarum silky seed heads which follow over summer, are just as lovely as the dramatic flowers.

Lovely cut for a vase

These gleaming seed balls of summer silk make lovely additions to a vase of cut flowers, as do the earlier flowers.
So Pasque Flowers deliver great value for a very long time, with their combination of buds, flowers, wonderful seed heads and lacy foliage.

Hardy & easy to grow in the garden

Plant in Sun to ½ Shade and Dappled Sun, where they are tolerant of periods of dry, once settled in. So they are water-wise plants for gardeners with a limited water budget.
Being extremely frost hardy in winter also adds to their virtues.
And they are easy to grow in the garden, with low maintenance, since they are rarely if ever troubled by any pests or diseases and do not require any pruning.

Quick & easy from seed

You can soon have delightful clumps in the garden, as Pulsatilla vulgaris ‘Blaue Glocke’ is quick and east to raise from seed.
Once planted out it forms a neat & hardy perennial clump of 20cm H large and lovely flowers x 20cm W of lacy ferny foliage.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Suits beginners & gardening with kids

Sow Pulsatilla vulgaris ‘Blaue Glocke’ indoors in winter, spring or autumn / or scatter outdoors during winter or spring.

Sow indoors for quick plants & early flowers: Sow seeds in punnets on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then press the seeds gently into the surface of the mix to ensure good contact.
But do not cover the seeds with mix.
Because these seeds need light to germinate.

Now keep the sown punnet moist in well-lit position.
A bright window-sill or well lit corner is perfect (but not in direct sunlight).
You can use a temperature-controlled heat mat if you have one, but this is not essential as these seeds are easy and quick to germinate.

Temperatures of 15-21°C. are optimum for rapid and thorough germination.

Seedlings emerge in approx. 21-28 days.

But if the seeds are shy to germinate – Cling wrap your moist punnet.
And place in fridge (not freezer) for 4-6 weeks to break the seeds dormancy with a “pretend winter”.

Then remove, unwrap & return to a well-lit position at 15-21°C.
Keep moist until ready to prick out.

Seed Count: 20 seeds per pack approx.
