Runner’s World Review

The midsole and outsole remain unchanged on 361 Degrees’ top-of-the-line cushioning shoe, though we noticed that the ride is noticeably firmer, especially in the heel. Even so, it’s still a soft, smooth shoe that will absorb a lot of miles on unforgiving roads. “The cushioning was just soft enough to take the harshness off the road without feeling like it was zapping efficiency,” says Gerry Hanson, a 57-year-old tester who runs half his weekly mileage on paved surfaces in Dewitt, Michigan. The upper features a new, sleek-looking sandwich mesh that delivers plenty of structure and breathability, while eliminating the stitched-on overlays found on the previous version.

We put each shoe through real-world usage and a battery of mechanical tests in our lab to provide you with objective — and exclusive — data. In addition to a shoe's weight, we measure sole thickness (everything that sits between your foot and the road), how well the foam cushions your stride, and the flexibility of the forefoot. All this is taken into account in our reviews of each shoe.
