Description

A semi-evergreen to evergreen, remarkably hardy species with narrow, shiny fresh green leaves and, from August onwards, a succession of bright, lemon yellow, funnel-shaped flowers which appear in temperature and water mediated waves until frosts hit the plants in October.

Readily grown and flowered this is a truly excellent garden plant which manages to increase rapidly as well as make flowers. Moist soil preferably lime-free and well drained, drier in summer if possible but if kept warm and watered, this will not bother to go dormant and it wil just carry on increasing and flowering. Quite similar to Z. citrina from n. Mexico (Yucatan) but with leaf and flower colour differences as well as a different chromosome count (2n-14) and a major morphological difference in that the petals form two distinct, non-identical whorls in Z. flavissima whilst all six petals are identical in Z. citrina.

This is a native of the south of Brazil and adjacent northern Argentina.
