Description
Classically this species is thought of as white with deep-violet marks on the falls, and a central orange crest, but it is in fact proving to be variable through yellow to purple and red. It always has yellow pollen.
Cultivated bulbs, raised outside, against traditional advice in a raised, well-drained loam compost in full sun! Flowers as early as January.
As the name implies this strain is deeply coloured with a distinct bias towards red. The plant illustrated is typical.
