Description

A superb Dalmatian species with good-sized flowers each having a buff-silver exterior lined with thin hairstreaks of purple, opening to reveal that the inner surface of these petals, as well as the three inner petals themselves have a light but bright violet interior toning to a yellow throat, all with a good honey scent.

Rarely seen as the true wild-type but here in its best, most outstanding form originally found by ourselves on 9th April 1982 between Petrovac and Virpazar in what was then Yugoslavia (it is now part of  Montenegro) rocky deciduous woods of Oak (Quercus) and Hornbeam (Carpinus) over limestone at 740m.

A superb cultivated stock, growing readily here in a well-drained, sunny soil and flowering quite late in the spring Crocus season.
