Description

Broad, green leaves, each usually divided into five leaflets, below an inflorescence of such deep purple-brown that it appears to be black.

The spathe is thinly lined with white and has a broad lid that over-tops the spadix, which is purple – white at the tip. Superficially Arisaema engleri is not unlike the related Arisaema sikokianum, however this is not expanded into a club-shape, at the tip of the spadix.

The identification of many these Chinese species is poorly detailed or documented, but our plant corresponds to Pampanini’s original.

Not difficult under garden conditions which grow other species – light shade, humus rich, well-drained soil.
