A small annual to perennial shrub that can grow to about 2 m tall. Tithonia diversifolia forms small clusters that are characterized by a long flowering period. Originally from Mexico and Central America, this species has its distribution in dry to moderately moist zones and can also be planted on degenerated soils as erosion control. The flowers are readily visited by a variety of insect species. In addition, Tithonia diversifolia is very interesting as a forage plant due to its high protein content and is increasingly cultivated in the tropics and subtropics worldwide.
