A very rare Strelitzia from the Cape Province in South Africa, similar to S. nicolai but with paler leaves, a slightly different flower and smaller stature. Most Strelitzia in cultivation as S. alba are in fact S. nicolai. Due to S. albas more southerly distribution it could be expected to be a little hardier to cold that S. nicolai.
