A stunning Bromeliad found usually as an epiphyte on tree trunks in rain and cloud forests from Costa Rica to northern Peru between 200 and 1600 m. It has long, broad, drooping leaves with a distinct petiole and an unbranched, drooping inflorescence with red or pink bracts and large, yellow flowers that appear after the bracts have turned brown. Pitcairnia arcuata will grow in a range of warm temperate and tropical climates.
