Quantity:
A perennial in the daisy and sunflower family (Asteraceae), native to wet grassland above the tree line on the South Island of New Zealand. It forms an open cluster or mat of rosettes of broad, straplike leaves to 40 cm (16 in.) long that are bronzy-green above with a prominent orangish line along the middle and silvery and densely hairy below, and rise from an underground rootstock. The daisy-like flowers are held just above the leaves. It is similar to C. armstrongii but differs in the broader leaves. In cultivation, it is easily grown and prefers a shaded, moist but well drained position in a temperate climate. It dislikes excessive heat and humidity. Seeds may benefit from cold stratification for up to 3 months.
