Anisotome is a genus closely related to Aciphylla and native to New Zealand exclusively. A. latifolia is found on the subantarctic Auckland and Campbell Islands and part of the astounding "megaherb" flora found only on these cold and windy dots in the ocean. It forms a large rosette of leathery, glossy green, broad, pinnate leaves. The breathtaking inflorescence can reach up to 2 m (7 ft.) tall and produces countless, small, creamy to reddish-pink flowers in an umbrella-like structure. In cultivation it will do best in cool or cold temperate, oceanic climates. It does not like high summer temperatures, especially hot and humid conditions, but is otherwise easy to grow. Seeds are easy to germinate but may benefit from cold stratification for a few weeks after sowing.
