This small perennial grows a rosette of glaucous green, stiffly upright leaves with curious, spiraling tips in the fashion of a corkscrew, produced from a small, weakly clustering bulb. The erect inflorescences hold nodding, yellowish green flowers. Albuca spiralis is native to South Africas Western Cape Province where it grows in fynbos scrubland with winter rains. In cultivation it adapts well to a wide range of warm temperate climates and has recently attracted some attention as a house plant.
