This spectacularly beautiful Agave was described in 2011 from the Sierra Cucapá in northeastern Baja California, Mexico, where it grows on rocky granite slopes in an hyperarid environment that resembles a veritable moonscape. Agave turneri sports broad, powdery blue, beautifully banded leaves with dark marginal spines. It is critically endangered in habitat and only few plants exist in cultivation as flowering and fruiting is a rare event in this species. Seeds have generally been unavailable. In cultivation it is suited to a wide range of warm temperate climates and requires a substrate with excellent drainage.
