Friend Poem by John Benover

Friend

You're like a bad friend who is never
there for me, but yet I trust you more
than I trust myself.
Yes, you were there with me through the darkest
years of my life. You are
the darkest thing in my life! I'll never get
anywhere as long as you're around.
You get to me at my weakest.
You're afraid when I'm strong.
You'll always be scared to
admit that you're wrong for me.

but I never let myself
off the hook. He is 17 … would be 17.
He was 15 when he overdosed.
He had left that night with a few of his friends,
When he blew curfew I shouldn't have been surprised
When I got that knock on my door…
I guess you can never be too surprised now-a-days
