Moroccan zaqqum blooms in the Anti-Atlas

Widely known around the world as the ornamental Oleander shrub, this specimen of "Nerium oleander" occurs naturally in Morocco --usually near dry river beds like this site near Amtoudi in the Anti-Atlas range. The plant is is called zaqqum in Arabic. Zaqqum is native to a broad area from Morocco and Portugal eastward through the Mediterranean region and southern Asia to Yunnan in southern parts of China.
