Rosa Gallery Watercolor Color Chart + Pigment Database Update

The first 44 swatch cards for this brand have been completed and placed on the brand review page, as well as each color being sorted by pigment into the database for comparison to other brands. I have also attached a color chart for the full catalog - which includes about a dozen NEW colors that are currently making their way into production. Some of the "NEW" (marked in red) are from the recent release reflected in my swatch cards, some will be later this fall. I have highlighted in yellow all of the single pigment paints this company offers.

I will be delaying my brand overview video due to the announcement of new colors coming out in a few months! I will get them as soon as I see them become available for purchase. I'm happy to see a decent selection of single pigments coming to this line, including some of my most used choices like PY150 Nickel Azo Yellow, PBr25 Royal Brown and PB36 Cerulean.

Until then, if you happen to be shopping at a site that carries Rosa Gallery watercolor paints (Etsy USA, Artmiranda Spain) - I highly recommend trying the Magenta, Quin Lilac, Violet, Ultramarine (as well as Lilac/Lavender/Cadmiums if you are OK with opacity). They are some of the most high quality examples of those pigments I have ever seen. The price point is low for these full pans, very similar to White Nights. I also found out that they used to be part of the same factory (though had some different formulas as these are not honey based) until they separated from them moving about a day's drive south from St. Petersburg to the Ukraine.

Warning - a few of the colors had minor issues and like most brands I do not universally recommend each and every color they carry. Nearly every brand has things they do well and not so well, and for Rosa there are somewhat weak earth browns. I noticed texture oddities in Sap Green, Bright Green and Turquiose. The Iso Yellow PY110 has a very unusual matte and firm appearance in the pan, and while not overly hard to re-wet was notably different from the ease in which the rest of the paints release color. This could be how that particular pigment always is, as it's not a commonly used one. As far as lightfastness, I did note several colors contain a mixture including PR177 and PV3 - both of which I have had fade over time in other brands. These issues should definitely not dissuade you from trying their best colors, as the value is truly amazing for them. I will be placing my focus on spotlighting their spectacular single pigment paints in the future.

Happy painting,

Kimberly
