Chandeliers, wood, marble, and arched windows with stained glass make for a stately feel in the lobby, evoking the bygone colonial era. Rooms are classic and elegant, with polished hardwood floors, period furniture, rotary phones, and impressive marble bathrooms -- but guests have complained that many units are past their prime, and some may find the style a little stodgy. There is a small outdoor pool and bright fitness center on-site. The location within walking distance of many major attractions is a big plus, and the views of Saigon River from the rooftop bar are hard to beat. Wi-Fi is free throughout. Housed in a beautiful cream-colored building dating back to 1925, the Hotel Majestic Saigon offers a glimpse of Ho Chi Minh’s colonial past. The lobby, while starting to show its age, is still grand and luxurious, with stained glass panels above the front desk, striking ceiling moldings, chandeliers, gleaming floors, big flower arrangements, and arched windows overlooking busy Ton Duc Thang Street. From the restaurants to the central courtyard and the lobby bar, the property oozes Old World charm. However, it is in need of some updates, and past guests have complained of tired rooms. Its golden days, when heads of state and other celebrities were among its guests, are in the past -- but for a taste of old Saigon, the Majestic is a lovely choice.
