Bottom Line

Hotel Palia Don Pedro is an all-inclusive budget hotel with apartment-style lodgings offering up to two bedrooms. The 134 units here lack air-conditioning, but breezes and the surrounding tropical gardens that dominate the grounds help keep things relatively cool. Meals are served buffet-style, with special themed nights in the evenings, and there's a bar next to the large outdoor pool doling out drinks throughout the day. The hotel also offers a tiny kids' club, and there are lots of activities for children and adults, from archery to aerobics. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, but it costs extra, as does secure on-site parking (though there's plenty of free street parking just outside). Travelers looking for similar lodgings in Costa del Silencio may also want to check out Apartments Alondras Park, which offers similar rooms and a nice pool, but fewer amenities.

Hotel Palia Don Pedro

Scene

Quiet, family-friendly all-inclusive resort with lovely gardens, popular with French and Polish travelers

Hotel Palia Don Pedro is a quiet, family-oriented, all-inclusive resort consisting of multiple two-story buildings dating back to 1975. This mellow hotel attracts budget travelers from across Europe -- compared to many of the other properties in Tenerife, this spot doesn't draw a ton of British guests, and many of the people who stay here are French or Polish. Arguably, the resort's biggest highlight is its lovely garden-filled grounds, with tons of tropical foliage and pink blossoms. Because of its lushness, these areas can attract more songbirds than guests, and those staying here should expect to see and hear plenty of feathered visitors swooping by.

Location

Quiet location, near the main Costa del Silencio drag and a small beach

Hotel Palia Don Pedro is located in Costa del Silencio, a small community just outside of busier Las Galletas on the southern coast of Tenerife. It's situated at the end of a quiet street, across from a field and around a five-minute walk to a small pebbly beach. It's a four-minute walk from the main drag where there are lots of shops, pharmacies, bars, and restaurants. Bus number 467 also stops here and offers direct service to Playa las Americas every 20 minutes (or every half hour on Sundays). The journey takes around 45 minutes. Here you have plenty of entertainment options to choose from ranging from casinos to comedy shows, as well as shopping center and theme parks -- Siam Park and Aqualand are particularly popular.

Mount Teide, a beautiful volcano at the center of the island -- complete with a cable car, an astronomical observatory, and plenty of high-altitude hiking opportunities -- takes just over an hour to reach by car. Masca, the base for trekking through the popular Masca Valley, is a 50-minute drive from the hotel. Tenerife South Airport is about 15 minutes away by car or around 45 minutes on bus 415, which stops on the main road, just a few minutes' walk up from the hotel.

Rooms

Simple apartment-style units with kitchenettes and balconies but no air-conditioning

Hotel Palia Don Pedro offers three types of rooms: Studios, One-Bedroom Apartments, and Two-Bedroom Apartments. All have simple, borderline dated decor with cream-colored tile floors and striped linens and upholstery. They also all come with basic kitchenettes featuring mini-fridges and two-hob burners, plus balconies with views out onto the lovely grounds. Living rooms feature sofa beds that can be made up into third beds for children. Bathrooms are simple and unmemorable, with shower/tub combos and dated orange tiling, and toiletries aren't provided.

Standard features include safes (for a fee) and all units are equipped with tube TVs featuring channels in Spanish, English, French, Russian, Polish, and Italian. While rooms lack air-conditioning, they do have ceiling fans. Be prepared to pay a deposit if you want a remote control (available from the front desk).
