Bottom Line

The 240-room Prestige Sant Marc Hotel is a dated budget property set a six-minute walk from the beach. Set just outside the center of Roses, there are numerous bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. Simple, old-fashioned rooms have tube-style TVs, furnished balconies, and shower/tub combos, but no air-conditioning. Couples and families alike come here for the outdoor pool with accompanying children’s pool, buffet-style restaurant, and kid-friendly entertainment. Travelers more interested in modern decor than a pool should consider the similarly priced Hotel Montmar

Prestige Sant Marc Hotel

Scene

Family-friendly, but dated, hotel

Situated outside of busy Roses and just over a five-minute walk from the beach, the Prestige Sant Marc Hotel has the advantage of being close to the action but it's still relatively quiet. When not at the beach, couples and families take respite from the Spanish sun at the pair of adult and kiddy pools, and entertainment such as dancing during the day and evening. Unfortunately, decor throughout is dated and in need of a refresh, although the lobby's sea-themed gallery wall and retro-style furniture adds a modern touch. Value-seeking travelers looking for a simple spot with easy beach access will likely be happy here, though the lack of in-room air-conditioning may be a deal-breaker for some.

Location

Close to the beach and walkable to town

The hotel sits a six-minute walk from the beach in Roses, a small town on Spain's Costa Brava. The center of town is a 30-minute walk away, but several restaurants, bars, and shops are in the immediate area. The AquaBrava water park is a seven-minute drive. It’s a two-hour drive to Barcelona and an hour drive from the Girona-Costa Brava Airport.

Rooms

Clean rooms with balconies, but dated decor includes old tube TVs

The 240 rooms have either two or three twin beds, and they're all outfitted in a dated style. Expect simple, old-fashioned wood furniture, terra-cotta tile floors, white textured walls, and generic artwork. Some wear and tear is visible, and TVs are of the old tube-style variety. The most frequent complaint of guests, however, is the lack of air-conditioning, as many travelers find the ceiling fans insufficient in the summer months. Standard amenities include desks, closets with safes for a fee, and free Wi-Fi. Also standard are furnished terraces set with metal tables and chairs, and higher rooms have distant views of the water. Traditional bathrooms have shower/tub combos, granite countertops, bidets, and soap dispensers.

Features

Buffet restaurant, outdoor pool and kiddy pool, and nightly entertainment

There aren't many offerings at the Prestige Sant Marc Hotel, but most guests hang around the outdoor pool. Although a bit small for the size of the resort, the pool never seems to be too busy, plus there's a separate kiddy pool. White plastic loungers and dining tables surround the pools. Dining-wise, the restaurant serves varied, well-reviewed buffets for breakfast and dinner. A large bar has various seating and a piano. Daytime and evening entertainment includes family-friendly fare such as live music. Wi-Fi is free.
