LATE EARLY

Common Name Wagner's Restrepia [German Traveler and Orchid Collector 1800's]

Flower Size .4" [1 cm]

Found in Merida and Falcon states of western Venezuela at elevations around 1200 to 2300 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with erect ramicauls enveloped by 5 to 6, white, thin, loose, compressed, more or less imbricating sheaths with the lowermost being black spotted and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptic-ovate, acute, broadly cuneate to rounded and contracted below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the late spring and early summer on an erect, arising from the back of the leaf, held in a fascile, 1.6 to 2" [4 to 5 cm] long, successive single flowered inflorescence with a thin, tubular, shorter than the ovary floral bract.

"Allied to both Restrepia elegans and Restrepia lansbergii but R wagneri differs in the thinly striped synsepal. Similar to striped form of Restrepia trichoglossa but the very narrow, usually fringed lip immediately distinguishes it. The small lip of R wagneri is oblong, only faintly if at all, narrowed near the middle. The surface and margins are only minutely or microscopically scabrous-verrucose." Luer 1996

Synonyms Restrepia lansbergii var. wageneri Eaton 1860
