Found in Chiapas state of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama at altitudes of 950 to 2500 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte with ovoid to suborbicular, compressed pseudobulbs subtended by non foliaceous, subulate sheaths and carrying a single, apical, narrowly elliptic, obtuse, emarginate, apiculate, gradually narrowing below into the indistinctly to shortly petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring through summer on one or more from each sheath axil, 4" [10 cm] long, terete inflorescence with a cucullate, acute, floral bract and stinky scented flowers.
