Found in French Guiana, Guyana, Surinam, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and nothern Brazil in Amazon forests at elevations of 80 to 1500 meters as a small to just medium sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte with clustered, discoid to ellipsoid, compressed pseudobulbs enveloped basally by a few distchous, imbricate, acute leafless sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, linear-lanceolate to linear-oblong, acute to subacute, attenuate below into the conduplicate, elongate, narrow petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer, fall and wintre on 1 to 2, axillary from the sheaths, single flowered, 1.8 to 3.6" [4.5 to 9 cm] long, slender inflorescence arising on mature pseudobulbs and are completely to almost completely enveloped by several, tubular, subacute to acute, green speckled with red bracts
