Found in Phitsanulok Province in northern Thailand often growing on moss covered rocky areas surrounding seasonally affected waterways at elevations of 200 to 500 meters as a small to medium sized, hot growing lithophyte with a discoid, fleshy, flattened, duck foot tuber giving rise to an erect, shprt stem carrying 4 to 6, in a rosette, thin, glabrous, sessile, lanceolate, acute-acuminate, 7 veined, keeled, dark green, veins sometimes darker green as to appear lightly tesselated, slightly wavy, thin margin leaves that blooms in the fall on an erect, slender, bilaterally compressed, dark green to reddish tinged, 2" [5 cm] long, 2 to10 flowered inflorescence carrying the resupinate, showy, porrect, non-fragrant flowers mostly held to one side.
Over the years several new species have been cut out of H rhococheila and include H erichmichaelii, H roeblinii and H xanthocheila.
